These chairs are beautifully designed and made of quality materials that I suspect will last a good long time. I bought four of these, so it was a significant investment. I was really nervous about buying a chair online that I’d never sat in. However, several reviewers mentioned comfort (I know, this can vary for your own height, weight, preference), but I too find them to be very comfortable. These might not be a great choice for elderly folks, as they do sit quite low/far back, and could be a bit difficult to get up and out of them. My husband and I are picky, and he’s a former woodworker, but we really like these. I would suggest doing the oiling before putting them together so you can protect the joined areas, at least for this first oiling. Of the four chairs, one had a small error in the sizing/placement of the mortars/tendons, and therefore wouldn’t fit together without really forcing it, causing too much pressure on the joints/chair. Luckily my husband was able to shave a little material from the tendon, then it fit together fine.
