A fireproof mat serves as a radiant thermal barrier that reflects up to 95% of radiant heat. This ensures that the mat and the surface where it rests won’t absorb heat from the fire pit. In fact, the mat remains at body temperature under the fire pit! This is possible through the aluminizing process used on both sides of the fireproof mat. It works similarly to thermal aluminum insulation panels. But unlike insulation panels, these fireproof mats can withstand very high temperatures – up to 1800°F!
