This was an extra super that I bought for my Warre Hive.I want this hive because its so bee friendly and I’m going to be comparing 3 different types of hives this year. This one, I’ll place near my home.It has a nice observation window in the back, so I can see the bees inside the hive.I love this.It looks exactly like the picture when you get it.

As your hive builds up population in the spring and summer, it needs room to build more comb, store honey and lay brood. Just for perspective, my hive got to six boxes before I realized I needed to split the hive into two. These boxes seem of higher quality compared to the boxes that come with the hive, which is interesting because they should come from the same manufacturer but these boxes are slightly different. On top of that, the top bars are not compatible from the add-on boxes to the boxes that come with the hive. I can’t decide if this is a big deal or not, because technically the Warre method doesn’t require removal of the top bars but cases may arise where some manipulation could be helpful. Without that compatibility you really need to keep track of boxes.
For beekeepers adhering to the Warre Method, especially with just a single hive this likely presents no issue. For those with multiple hives like me, it’s better to know. I don’t really know what other options there are other than to make one hive only use the original boxes and the other only add-on boxes. The manufacturer should address this.

This was made slightly better (the way the window is attached) than the complete hive. The boxes all stack together as intended.

These bee hives are less expensive than others I have invested in.I have plans to use this hive as my spare in the event I catch a swarm. This box will be used as the swarm catcher box, which will then be installed into the matching hive.I’ll use the roof from the matching hive as the top of this box and then transition the whole thing if I am lucky enough to get free bees.

It was really easy to put together, really well made, and the wood used smelled like an aromatic cedar. We put it in our garden area, and would recommend it to anyone interested in hobby bee keeping.
